Introduction
Chaishan, a well-known treasure house, accommodates about 769 species of plants, 64 species of birds, nine species of mammals, 21 species of reptiles, and numbers insects and other animals. It is a friendly and natural resource-rich resort inside Kaohsiung City.

If you follow the mountain trail behind the Sun Yat-Sen University campus and go along the beachside road for about 20 minutes, you will find a collection of huts built along the hillside. This is the old Chaishan Tribal village. This used to be a restricted military area, so outsiders rarely got a glimpse this historical site.

A decade ago, some of the restrictions were lifted. This beautiful hillside and seacoast has now become an ecological park. Most of the residents who made a living as fishermen or hunters have now gone to work in the city.

The overgrown path has now been trimmed into a trail along which tourists can journey in search of hidden scenic locations. Cafes as well as restaurants selling seafood and mountain delicacies have also sprung up. Although some building restrictions still apply, owners do their best to give a resort feel to their structures.
